Discovery

My discovery started with this question - What comes to mind when you think of health?

User Interviews and Key Findings

Interviewees:

Men and Women between 20-35

Key Findings:

Focusing on mental and physical health every day is vital to my user. It is also important for them to feel in control and positively reinforced to build good health habits.

Personas

This is my persona named Taylor. It was vitally helpful for me to think about what a day in Taylor’s shoes looked like so that I could better understand how she fits healthy habits into her schedule.

Problem Statement

Taylor needs a solution that provides positive reinforcement to continue working toward their overall health goals. This solution is the synthesis of mind and body.

‘How might we’ ideation

How might we combine mental and physical health into one organized place for Taylor?

My initial ideas consisted of creating a solution that would be a one-stop-shop for all types of health solutions (healthy recipes, exercises, meditation, etc).

Wireframes

But this did not really answer my problem statement, Taylor needs positive reinforcement and flexibility in her life.

I started to rethink the design.

Usability Testing

I had 10 testers participate in a usability test.

These were the main topics I wanted to test:

  • Would the user be able to recognize how to swap out their workout with another activity they had planned for the day

  • Feedback on if checking in at the end of the day to journal or markdown feelings was interesting to the user

Insights

  • 60% of testers were successful in rescheduling their workout and swapping it out with another event in their day

  • 70% of testers liked the option to check-in at the end of their day

  • 60% of users would be interested in seeing their check-in end of day data to keep track of how they were feeling over time

Final Look

User experience of how to move an existing workout or activity

User experience of how to check-in at the end of the user’s day

Let’s Reflect

What could be improved?

  • Opportunity for more user research on tracking emotions & feelings over time (60% of participants from the usability test were interested in this option).

  • Continued work on the user experience and overall flow of the app.

  • Setting up goal reminders and areas of focus for each day, my persona wanted alerts and more positive reinforcement in their day.

  • Continue iterating on the UI to bring the app to a further Hi-fi state.
